The dastardly attack on Army Public School in Peshawar has left many Bollywood greats in a state of shock. In his blog, Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan said that instead of sympathising, the world should pray for the survivors and victims.

The veteran actor posted: "I can reconcile with my mind... I can reconcile with my body... I can reconcile with idiocy... I can reconcile with victory and defeat... but how does one reconcile with the tragedy and the horror of the children in Peshawar, Pakistan...

“Life goes on as does the wheel of fortune... moving endlessly on its axis of all what life and the heavens purported to bless us with... but when you look back, it is time for you to look forward... the horror does not need any accreditation... it does not need attention or sympathy... right now it needs only prayer and thoughts with those little ones.”

Feeling the pain and agony, the 72-year-old wrote: "Going about our daily work is ridden with the thoughts of those that perished... those that shall never see their homes again… those who went to educate themselves, to learn, to understand, to live... and they all ended up a heap of... it is difficult even to talk about it…"

He further wrote: "It is difficult to even begin to describe what our feelings should be, for all that we can possibly perceive is that a prayer and comfort is all that we should be giving to those that survived.”

KOLKATA: Leaving behind all other actors in the film industry, Amitabh Bachchan has been ranked number one on Twitter in terms of both popularity and activity.

In an analytics report of the most popular Bollywood stars on the social networking site, Big B with 12 million followers on Twitter topped the popularity list.

Digital services provider 'To The New' rated various Bollywood celebrities on the basis of their popularity and their engagement with fans on Twitter. The ranking is based on an algorithm which combines the scores received for each measure ie total number of followers, absolute increase in followers and tweets per day.


72-year-old Bachchan is followed by superstar Shah Rukh Khan (10.4 million followers) at number two and Abhishek Bachchan (5.4 million) at the third position.

Hrithik Roshan (7.7 million), Aamir Khan (10.1 million) and Salman Khan (9.5 million) have also made it to the list of top 10 most popular Bollywood actors.

Actresses in the list include Priyanka Chopra (8 million), Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha.

With an average of 20 tweets, re-tweets and replies per day, Bachchan also came out as the most active one among all.

His son Abhishek came second with an average of ten tweets. Anupam Kher, SRK and Sonakshi are also among the most active ones.

Amitabh Bachchan was honoured with International Icon of the Year at the Sansui COLORS Stardust Awards here. Veteran actress Asha Parekh, on the other hand, walked away with Lifetime Achievement award.

The star-studded award ceremony, held Sunday, was co-hosted by filmmaker Karan Johar and actor Riteish Deshmukh along with "Cocktail" star Saif Ali Khan.

"Queen" and "Highway" dominated the winners' list of searchlight awards (small budget, big concept). "Queen" received best actress (Kangana Ranaut), best film, and Vikas Bahl shared best director award with Imtiaz Ali, who helmed "Highway".


Ali's movie also won the best actor - male award for Randeep Hooda, while his co-star Alia Bhatt got the superstar of tomorrow - female trophy.

Under the achievers of the year (rulers of box office 2014) category, the film of the year went to "Happy New Year". Its director Farah Khan won the dream director award, while the movie's star Shah Rukh Khan was honoured with best actor - thriller/action trophy.

He also walked home with star of the year - male award. The blockbuster's lead actress Deepika Padukone won the star of the year - female award.

Amitabh Bachchan, in his own words, went into the embrace of grandchildren when he, recently, visited New Delhi to attend an event over the weekend.

The event had to be shot and televised in New Delhi and this made Big B to meet his daughter Shweta Nanda in New Delhi. Amitabh Bachchan then took to his blog and posted a picture of his teenage grandchildren – Agastya and Navya Naveli.


He went on to explain how his grandchildren have grown and ready to break into adulthood. He wrote, “The grandchildren have grrrroooooowwwnnnn ! They are tall and filled up and with crackling voice, about to break through to maturity. And the short time spent with them was educative and sound.”

The megastar also rued over the enormity of traffic in New Delhi, which sometimes overtakes Mumbai too. “Back, through the traffic of Delhi which at times … at times … beats Mumbai to it, on to the plane and back home … and domesticity, and simple issues that occurred during this short departure,” added he.

The Bachchans are said to be a close knit family and Amitabh Bachchan has never shied away from expressing his love for his children and grandchildren, be it Abhishek and his daughter Aaradhya or Shweta and her children. Big B also posted a picture of Abhishek and Aishwarya and their daughter Aaradhya from the event where Aishwarya was awarded the ‘most successful Miss World ever’, captioning it as “the most attractive feature of the picture is the surprised face of the tiny tot.”

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has seen highs and lows in his journey from being Bollywood's "angry young man" to its Shahenshah. The actor says his determination and focus helped him emerge from the brink of bankruptcy.

For the actor, things didn't turn out as expected with his Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Ltd. (ABCL) landing him into financial mess.

"It was a difficult time. ABCL went into debt. I was bankrupt. The people who expressed desire to work with me at the peak of my career came and hurled abuses at me," Amitabh Bachchan said at a session of Agenda Aaj Tak here on Saturday.

The 72-year-old, who has consistently proved his mettle with films like Agneepath, Don, Black, Paa and Cheeni Kum, says his focus and passion for acting helped him overcome that phase.

"When you are in such a problem, you don't sleep at night. On one such night, I asked myself 'Who I am' and realised that I came here to act and should stick to it," he said.

"Next morning, I went to (late filmmaker) Yash Chopra and explained my problem and told him that I neither have money nor work. It was then he gave me a role in Mohabbatein and then I started again from that point," he added.

Amitabh Bachchan played the role of a strict father and professor, who doesn't believe in love, in the musical romantic drama, which released in 2000.

At the session, he also recited his late father Harivanshrai Bachchan's poem Madhushala and reminisced about his father. The actor says his lessons are his driving force.

"My father was in a government job and he went for another job at night due to which he came home late. When I opened the door for him, I often asked him 'Why is he so late?' and to which he replied 'Paisa badi mushkil se milta hai' (You don't get money easily)."

"So, when I entered show business, I used to do two to three shifts and reached home late. Then my father asked me the same question and complained about my late arrival. My answer was the same: 'Paisa badi mushkil se milta hai, babuji'. This is one of the many teachings that helps me in my life," he said.

Meanwhile, the actor has wrapped up shooting for Piku and is currently busy with Wazir.
