Amitabh Bachchan to be discharged on February 13
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who underwent surgery for bilateral inguinal hernia at the Seven Hills Hospital on Saturday, will be discharged on Monday.
According to doctors, inguinal hernia is most common among men.
Dr Vinod Chandi Ramani, head of general surgery at PD Hinduja Hospital, said: "Inguinal hernia is the most common problem in men and its only treatment is via surgery. However, many people are misguided that medicines and yoga can cure the disease. This leads to the delay in the operation and worsens the condition."
Inguinal hernias are protrusions of soft tissue, such as a portion of the intestine, through a weak spot in a muscle, usually in the abdominal wall.Dr Ramani said, "In men, indirect hernias follow the same route as the descending testes, which migrate from the abdomen into the scrotum. The larger size of their inguinal canal, which transmitted the testicle and accommodates the structures of the spermatic cord, might be one reason why men are 25 times more likely to have an inguinal hernia than women."
