Amitabh’s surgery went off well, says Abhishek
Megastar Amitabh Bachchan on Saturday successfully underwent abdominal surgery at a hospital in Mumbai, his son Abhishek Bachchan said.
The 69-year-old actor, who has a history of stomach ailments since his intestinal injury on the set of 1982 film Coolie, was admitted to the Seven Hills hospital in suburban Andheri.
Following the surgery, Abhishek tweeted that all was well.
"Thank you all for your wishes and prayers. The surgery went off well and dad is now in the room resting," the Abhishek tweeted. Earlier, the doctors also updated the media about the surgery, which has left the actor’s millions of fans concerned about his health.
"He got admitted (this) morning and he is undergoing surgery right now and the surgery is going on well," a doctor told reporters outside the hospital.
Abhishek said that Amitabh had come to the hospital complaining of "pain in the abdomen". He was examined and he underwent tests and it was found that surgical interventions will relieve him of his problems and the senior actor agreed.
Abhishek, however, refused to give details about the megastar’s medical condition, just saying he was stable. "He is very stable... I will not comment on his medical condition, it is his personal thing. All I can say is that he underwent an abdomen surgery," the doctor said.
Amitabh has been updating his fans about his medical condition by regularly blogging details. His latest tweet was from the hospital this morning where he thanked his fans for their wishes and prayers. The actor wrote on Friday that the latest problem too stemmed from the Coolie accident.
He had suffered a near fatal injury on July 26, 1982 while filming the scene with co-star Puneet Issar. Amitabh remained in hospital for many months at that time. He was again admitted to hospital in 2005 and underwent bowel surgery.
"Let me just say that the issue and the problem is a legacy of the past in particular the accident of 1982 and Coolie. Subsequent disturbances have all and shall emanate from it. So I should learn to bear it now," Amitabh wrote on Friday.
