It's time to show solidarity with our jawans: Big B on 74th birthday

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, on his 74th birthday on Tuesday, said that while the people in the country are raging with anger, it’s time for civilians to show solidarity with the soldiers who fight for their safety.

The ongoing bilateral tensions between India and Pakistan spilled over to the entertainment world in both nations when some Indian outfits demanded that Pakistani artistes must be ousted from the country.

Asked about the debate about the ban on Pakistani actors, Amitabh said: “People of this country are very angry by the incidents that have been happening at our borders. It’s time to show solidarity. It’s time to show solidarity towards our jawans and armed forces who are sacrificing their lives so that you and me can be safe.”

The actor spoke to the media at his office here on the occasion of his birthday. His last release “Pink” raised an important issue of stereotypes associated with women and their safety in the country. It led to debates galore, but Big B said he doesn’t pick films to leave a social impact as such on the society.

“We don’t do films thinking it will make an impact or not. If I get a good character and good story, then I decide whether to do it or not. If after doing any role, there is an impact in the society, then it’s great,” said the National Award winning actor.

His next project “Thug” will also feature Aamir Khan. He said he is looking forward to that opportunity.

“There have been many attempts for us to work together, but we haven’t yet. So yes, I look forward to that opportunity. He is a great star and great actor. He has been ruling the box office and industry for a long time,” he said.

The Indian film industry has been going through ups and downs, and there has been talk of various studios shutting shop. One cited reason has been the high remuneration demands of stars.

Big B says such hurdles will come and go, but the film industry will always be alive.

“This is the film industry and this will be alive and going on. Such hurdles and problems will be coming, but the film industry will go on. The actors are blamed saying they have taken a lot of money and that’s why a film got flopped.

"That actor has the power to get the audience to come to theatres… Then if an actor is demanding more money, then what’s wrong in it? If the film doesn’t work, in the next film they get (paid) less,” added the actor, who has worked in Bollywood for over four decades and became popular as Hindi cinema’s Angry Young Man and Shahenshah.

On Tuesday, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan unveiled a jukebox gifted to him by his fans. He said it is “precious and memorable” for him.

“A few years back, someone for Amsterdam had come and told me, ‘We make such things and we would like to make something for you’. I don’t know whether a jukebox will be there or not in the future but this gift is very memorable and precious to me. I will keep this in my office here,” Amitabh told the media at his office here on Tuesday morning.

With a career that has spanned over four decades, the actor has explored various characters and looks. He has also travelled widely and explored new things. His hunger to learn more hasn’t gone.

On his birthday, he said he hopes to learn to play new instruments and learn new languages.

“I can’t play any instruments, but we do have different instruments at our place and I want to learn to play different instruments. I want to learn different languages. I will take out time for that,” said the actor, whose energy and passion towards his craft leave many of his juniors in the industry in awe.

As a Sunday routine, the gates of the actor’s residence get thronged by fans who wait to catch a glimpse of him and wave at him. On his birthday too, fans came in to greet him.

Asked about how he was planning to spend the day, he said: “I will be spending my day with my family.”

Big B, who married actress Jaya Bhaduri, has two children – daughter Shweta and son Abhishek, and three grandchildren – Navya Naveli, Agastya and Aaradhya.

Shoojit Sircar's Pink continued its winning streak at the box office over its 2nd week as well, taking its domestic collection to Rs 50 crore nett by the end of day 10.

The movie Pink has completed 10 days at the Indian box office but the film has maintained excellent pace in its business. The courtroom drama witnessed overwhelming earning over its second weekend and it appears to be unstoppable.

After earning Rs 35.91 crore nett by the end of its first week, Pink made wonderful collection on the weekends. The film collected Rs 3.15 crore on Friday and Rs 5.49 crore on Saturday, taking its collection to Rs 44.55 crore nett at the Indian box office. "#Pink has a REMARKABLE 74.29% growth on Sat... All set to cross 50 cr...[Week 2] Fri 3.15 cr, Sat 5.49 cr. Total 44.55 cr. India biz," tweeted Taran Adarsh.

Now early estimates suggest that Pink performed even better on Sunday and collected Rs 6 crore (approximately) on its 10th day, taking its total earning to over Rs 50 crore. The first week day-wise break up of Pink is – Friday Rs 4.32 crore, Saturday Rs 7.95 crore, Sunday Rs 9.54 crore, Monday Rs 3.78 crore, Tuesday Rs 3.51 crore, Wednesday Rs 3.87 crore and Thursday Rs 3.24 crore.

Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu among others, Pink had started on a slow note but its box office collection picked up from day 2 itself. Blessed with positive reviews and strong word of mouth, the movie has kept the momentum up.

With no big releases, the film is likely to keep up the pace at the box office over the weekdays as well. However, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, which will be released on 30 September, is likely to affect its business.

Pink box office collection day 4: Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu film works wonders in India, abroad

Pink, a courtroom drama starring Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu showed a remarkable growth on Sunday. All the credit goes to a strong word of mouth publicity. Shoojit Sircar has yet again lifted a daily occurrence (which could happen to anyone) and elevated it to a cinematic glory. This grainy, gritty story about three young women trapped in a series of unfortunate incidents is compulsorily forcing people to watch the film in theatres.

And all the praise is translating to box office numbers too. Pink has so far collected Rs 21.51 crores in the domestic market.

The film is expected to do well on weekdays also.

The film witnessed an overall growth of 120.83% ( from Friday to Sunday). Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the box office collection of Pink on Twitter. He wrote, “#Pink Fri 4.32 cr, Sat 7.65 cr, Sun 9.54 cr. Total: ₹ 21.51 cr. India biz. EXCELLENT!” He also shared the percentage growth of film, ” #Pink witnesses MASSIVE JUMP on Sun… Sun biz is double of Fri… Sat growth [from Fri]: 77.08%… Sun growth [from Fri]: 120.83%… SUPER!.”

Taran also tweeted that the film is doing well abroad.

“#Pink – OVERSEAS: Went from strength to strength with each passing day. UAE & USA-Canada contributed maximum. Total: $ 978,744 [₹ 6.55 cr].”

Meanwhile, producer Shoojit Sircar got extremely emotional with the kind of appreciation his film was receiving and requested everyone not to ask about the box office collection of the film. Sircar, along with his entire team had a media interacted about the film on Monday (September 19).

“I am thankful to everyone who has liked the film.

We wanted people to see the film before and then talk to them so it would be more interesting to talk about it and because it’s a thriller and we couldn’t talk about it before.

“I cannot imagine the kind of reaction that we have got. One thing I would like to request everyone is that please don’t ask about the box office collection of this film,” Sircar said in an interview to IANS.

“This film is beyond box office collection for me. We don’t care how much the film has earned at the box office. The kind of response we have got so far is overwhelming,” he added.
