Big B's French inspiration

Chief guest Amitabh Bachchan delivered an emotional speech about reciting his father's poems in Paris, stating, "in cinema and culture, France leads and the rest of the world follows.

Bonjour India event was an inspiration." Hosts French Consul General Francois and Mayumi Pujolas beamed joyously, for Bastille Day, celebrated as French National Day is Mumbai's most looked forward to high society event.

Nanik Rupani, Mahendra Sanghi, Gul Kripalani, Sumit Mullick mingled with Dutch CG Marijke Van Drunen Littel, Canadian CG Marvin Hildebrand, Thailand CG Tomwat and Margo Jarnson, Bharati Mongia, Tony and Sherry Singh, Dilip Jhangiani and Farzin Moutonnet and the thousand exclusive guests burst into applause when Bachchanji reminded us that 14th of July is also the date when the Kargil War was won.

Raell Padamsee, Anil Dharker and Poonam Soni engaged in conversation as Fahad Samar caught up with Ashwini Kakkar. Narendra Kumar was seen enjoying the company of friends. Also enjoying the jubilations were Pravina and Jamal Mecklai, Devieka Bhojwani, Zeba Kohli, Naaz and Remu Zaveri, Talat and Bina Aziz, Dilip Dandekar, Jaideep Mehrotra and Esther and Raju Daswani.

After champagne and dinner the guests swung onto the dance floor with abandon. Piloo Tata set the floor on fire with Turkish CG Murat Yoruk, Vinod Advani followed with Khorshed Mehta, everyone applauded jivers Terry and Effi Desouza and the dancing went on till the wee hours of the morning. Overheard as we were leaving, "Why don't all national days have dancing?" Sante is all we can say.
