Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who has us eagerly awaiting his next appearance onscreen, has finally revealed the release date of comedy-drama ‘Piku’.

Big B took to Twitter to share the date, which is May 8, 2015.

Set in Kolkata, the Shoojit Sircar-directed film also stars Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone.
During the schedule of the film, a number of pictures from the sets made their way to the internet, including those of Amitabh Bachchan riding around in the City of Joy on a cycle.

Amitabh Bachchan, who shot for many films in Kolkata during his younger days, was happy to be back in the city. “In ‘PIKU land’ … !! Too many memories flashing by as the drive from the airport ends .. but so much more to come in the days ahead. Kolkata shall always hold a special place and space within…a ‘city of joy’ that energises you with intellect and passion !!,” posted Big B at the time.

The film is said to delve into the relationship between a father and daughter.

 MSM Motion Pictures and Yash Raj Films come together for Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’

Mumbai : MSM Motion Pictures, a division of Multi Screen Media Pvt Ltd. has partnered with India’s leading film production company, Yash Raj Films for the worldwide theatrical distribution of their upcoming family comedy drama, ‘Piku’.

The move further strengthens the 20 year association between the two companies. YRF’s distribution network will not only take ‘Piku’ to just domestic audiences but will also tend to non-traditional markets globally.

Amitabh takes on the role of a father in this film which is believed to be a 'different' take on the relationship a father shares with his daughter. Deepika Padukone has been addressing Amitabh Bachchan as Baba (father) for a while now. The two actors are currently shooting for Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming film, Piku, in which Big B and Deepika play father and daughter respectively.

Apparently, not only Deepika, but also the other members of the cast and crew of the film, including Irrfan Khan, call him Baba now. "Bachchan sir likes the way Deepika and the others address him as Baba," says a source from the film’s unit.

So, to reciprocate the gesture, Big B has coined a nickname for Deepika too. "He calls her Deepiku, nobody else addresses her by that name," adds the source.

"The way they address each other, on and off the sets, shows the comfortable relationship they share," says Juhi Chaturvedi, the writer of the film, which has been shot in Kolkata and will see Bachchan and Deepika play Bengali characters.

A commitment is a commitment .. so even though the Agenda Aaj Tak finished late last night on the 13th in Delhi .. I rushed to get on the plane and worked till late here on arrival. The LIVE telecast on ‘Banega Swach India’ campaign launched by NDTV was to begin at 9 am sharp .. but had to get in there by 7:30 am to rehearse and check many briefs with production from NDTV to get started on time ..

Its been 12 hours non stop on the Cleanathon, and without food and break it was a delight to be associated, propagating the cause of Clean India, a clarion call by the PM, to the rest of the world, particularly though in India.
After several talks and idea sharing and a deluge as far as the number of people that come over to you in the show was concerned, it was a nightmare production scare. BUT we managed well and with some degree of efficiency.

The moment it got over, rushed to Nari Hira of Stardust to take part in this nature Award show and won the ‘International Star’, gave away awards to Deepika and ShahRukh and ‘out of here’.

It is now stage desperate .. dropping over the key board .. so do excuse me and my love to all .

First look: Amitabh Bachchan flaunts 'family-pack' in Piku

First look of Amitabh Bachchan in Shoojit Sircar's Piku is out and knowing Big B's penchant for getting into the skin of a character, his first look is no surprise.

The superstar who plays Deepika Padukone's dad in the movie has grown his hair long and a big belly to look the part. The look is quirky yet adorable, somewhat similar to the shade and treatment of Piku.

Piku directed by Shoojit Sircar is a slice-of-life cinema. A quirky roller coaster ride of a crazy father-daughter relationship essayed by Amitabh and Deepika, along with Irrfan in a pivotal author-backed role.

Shoojit Sircar of Vicky Donor and Madras Cafe fame, is all praise for his three main leads.


"Piku is a story that will warm your heart and make you smile! We have the best of the talent coming together for a refreshing tale of a father-daughter relationship. I am privileged to direct Mr. Bachchan along with Deepika and Irrfan. They are three powerhouse performers and it doesn't get better than this for me," says the director.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is excited to visit Kolkata for the second shooting schedule of director Shoojit Sircar's 'next- 'Piku'. The 72-year-old actor started his career as a executive in a company in the city and has shot many films in Kolkata throughout his career.

I see some cut and edited scenes from 'Piku' with Shoojit as we discuss the next schedule in Kolkata, Delhi and Gujarat, a longish outdoor. Kolkata shall bring back old memories of my seven year stint as an executive in a Company .. It shall bring back the films shot there "The love and the passion of Bengal is overwhelming. Whenever in doubt or discomfort of your disposition, visit Kolkata... The people shall pick you up as their own and fill you with their cheer and affection... Always," Bachchan posted on his blog.

'Piku' also stars Irrfan Khan, Deepika Padukone, Moushumi Chatterjee and Jishu Sengupta. It explores the father and daughter relationship between Bachchan and Padukone's characters. Besides Kolkata, the film will also be shot in Delhi and parts of Gujarat.

"Delhi has been home for many years.. Its detailing has often been repeated.. But no matter how extensively we may express our feelings for a city that has been your abode for long, it is never enough to completely describe it. "Gujarat is the new home. Those visits for the tourism campaign has given me the love of the lovable affable and most hospitable people of the region," Bachchan said.

Bachchan posted about the same on a social networking site along with few pictures of them shaking their booties to the song! “KBC with the lovely and most affectionate Deepika Paducone ... Arjun Kapoor and the booty moving song .. hahaha,” posted Big B. He also shared his experience on his blog where he said, “Deepika Paducone for example .. she be with me on ‘Piku’ and she be with me, on KBC to promote her film ‘Finding Fanny’ along with Arjun Kapoor … and fun times it was .. !! Especially the ‘bootiya dance’ … hahaha .. its a popular number in the film and been done with some finesse.”
