The story of 'Shamitabh' revolves around the ego clash between two characters but Amitabh Bachchan says it bears no similarity with his 1973 hit 'Abhimaan'.

In 'Abhimaan', Bachchan and Jaya played singers who get married. Their marriage, however, hits the rock when the husband finds it hard to deal with the growing popularity of his wife.

"'Abhimaan' was the story of a couple where the wife was more talented than her husband. In 'Shamitabh' it's a story of two people. One person having something which the other person doesn't. Then comes the role of Akshara, who is a journalist. She is the one who will evaluate the two and get them to come together. The story is around these two people and their egos," Bachchan said in an interview. 

Directed by R Balki, who has worked with Bachchan in 'Cheeni Kum' and 'Paa', the film also stars Dhanush and Akshara Haasan. It will release on February 6.

The trailer of 'Shamitabh' shows the actor in a drunk state. Bachchan who has played similar roles in 'Sharabi', 'Do Anjaane', 'Amar Akbar Anthony' and 'Hum' among many others, said he delivers such scenes without touching the alcohol.

"He (his Shamitabh character) is frustrated in his life and sometime he takes the help of alcohol. There were many roles in the past where I had played such scenes but in every film the situations and the characters are different. Thus changes the way you perform on screen.

"But, I strictly believe that drinking alcohol is not good for an actor. There are some actors who drink before doing such a scene but I don't believe in that and will never do that," Bachchan said.
2014 was a busy year for the 72-year-old actor as he shot back-to-back films like 'Shamitabh', 'Wazir' and 'Piku' besides shooting his TV show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati'. 

   

"I am an artist. There are different looks for each film and I enjoyed working in them," said Bachchan, who collaborated with a Hollywood make-up artiste besides his make up Man Friday Deepak Sawant to create the unkempt look in his upcoming film.

Not anymore as a start-up venture Fly with VIP is offering a seat next to a star on a flight through online auction, starting with megastar Amitabh Bachchan. After Big B, the unique initiative will be followed by the team of forthcoming movie 'Shamitabh' - Dhanush, Akshara Haasan and R. Balki when they will fly on a private jet. 

The chance to fly with Amitabh is likely to occur in the first week of February. The bidding will take place at FlywithVIP.com. The treat by the company doesn't end with 'Shamitabh'. They have signed up celebrities across 14 different genres including film directors and producers, sportsmen, fashion designers, spiritual leaders, TV stars among others.

The users can take their pick from stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, Virat Kohli, Farah Khan. One can also take styling tips by sitting next to ace fashion designer Manish Malhotra. The company founded by Mumbai-based entrepreneur Gautam Chhabria and co-founded by Bangalore-based social entrepreneur Anil Shetty in 2011, has patented the concept in India, US, Russia, Indonesia, Malaysia and other places.

"There is a rigorous screening process adopted to ensure unwanted bidders like bookies who may want to fly with the Indian cricketers are kept out," said Chhabria in a statement. There are two methods of participating- an auction model which shall see the highest bidder get the seat and a raffle model where multiple participants pay as little as Rs.100 and get selected by a lucky draw.

There is also an advance booking section where interested participants will give non-binding offers without knowing the celebrity's flight date or sector. Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan said he is playing the character of a 'frustrated man' in his upcoming film Shamitabh. "As you watched the trailer, he (the character) is a frustrated man," said Bachchan who was accompanied by director R Balki and co-actors Dhanush and Akshara Hasan.

The Shamitabh team was on a promotional event of the film, scheduled to be released on February 6.

When asked about his experience of working under Balki, the Big B said 'an actor only follows instructions.' "No work is easier in life. People may think that one

feels good in front of camera. I have been working in the film industry for many years. Sometimes there remains a fear that what is cameraman thinking of, what is the demand of the script and whether I will fulfil or not," he said.

 Bachchan said he had done many films with Balki and the latter is like his family member. "But when camera starts rolling, we forget mother, father, brother or friends, we only remain actor and feel the character. Whatever has been instructed, we do that," he said.

Asked about his son Abhishek Bachchan once again turning a producer, the senior Bachchan said, "People have their own thinking, Abhishek had earlier produced films (Paa) and he is also doing acting apart from producing films."

Some parts of Shamitabh were shot in Seven Hills hospital in Mumbai where Bachchan had undergone an abdominal surgery earlier. "Balki insisted to shoot in the same hospital to add element of reality," he added.

On the content of the film, Bachchan parried the question by quoting lines from the trailer, "It is not picture, it is mixture."

Balki said Shamitabh is a story of two egos who clash with one another. "It is the story of two egos of how two people clash and nobody can be successful indeed. Most people think they can do it alone, most people think they have done it all. It is not like that. Behind every successful person, there is a team," said Balki, who had earlier directed movies like Paa and Cheeni Kum with Bachchan.

Dhanush, whose YouTube song 'Kolaveri Di' had become a cult and who had earlier worked in Bollywood movie Raanjhanaa, said the story of Shamitabh is unique and very fresh. "I am deeply honoured to work with Amitji," he added.

The younger daughter of versatile actor Kamal Haasan and Sarika, Akshara, who is debuting with the film, said it was a magical experience to work with stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Dhanush, and Balki.

Bachchan also praised Akshara saying, "This is Akshara's first film. I have a special family relation with her. She is daughter of Sarika and Kamal Haasan and obviously, she got the talent in her genes.

Amitabh Bachchan to start 'Shamitabh Movie' promotions

 Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is all set to begin the promotions of his upcoming film 'Shamitabh' on Tuesday from Gujarat. Bachchan, 72, who is the brand ambassador of the state, will embark on a multi-city tour for the film.

"Ahmedabad first on 14th... Then a host of other cities - Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Dubai, London and perhaps Pune. These are informed promotion acts by authorities that make them... "They may all come out true or may just fade away with some drastic last minute changes... Beware... But I do sincerely hope they do not," Bachchan posted on his blog. Also starring Dhanush and Kamal Haasan's younger daughter Akshara in key roles, the R Balki movie is set to release on February 6.
